ASHRAE High School Senior Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers
Overview
Four scholarships, each for one academic year and valued at $3,000, will be awarded. Awards apply to the academic year that begins with the fall semester following the application deadline.
Who is eligible
- Applicants must be high school seniors who will enroll full-time as first-year college students in a bachelor’s degree program in pre‑engineering, engineering, or engineering technology. The program of study should be one that traditionally prepares students for careers in the HVAC&R field.
- Academic requirement: a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and/or a class ranking no lower than the top 30%.
- The student must have been accepted to a post‑secondary institution whose program meets at least one of the accreditation/affiliation requirements listed below.
Program or institution requirements (at least one must apply)
- The institution hosts an officially recognized ASHRAE student branch.
- The program is accredited by ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) or by PAHRA (Partnership for Air‑Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration Accreditation).
- The program is accredited by an agency outside the United States that is a signatory to the Washington Accord or the Sydney Accord.
- The program is accredited by an agency that has a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ABET.
Required application materials
All items below must be received by the application deadline to be considered:
1. Official academic transcript. The transcript must be submitted either by mail, via an authorized electronic transcript transfer service, or sent directly from the registrar’s office on your behalf. Photocopies will not be accepted.
2. Proof of admission to a post‑secondary educational institution (an admission letter).
3. Three signed letters of recommendation:
- One from a teacher or school advisor,
- One from a current or former employer,
- One additional character reference (must not be a family member).
Submission
Submit all application materials so they arrive on or before the published application deadline. Incomplete or late submissions will not be considered.
