About the Award
The Phi Theta Kappa Tuition Scholarship is a competitive undergraduate tuition award for students transferring from community colleges (two-year institutions) who are working toward their first bachelor’s degree.
Selection Requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following to be considered:
1. Community-college-only enrollment after high school
- The student’s post–high school coursework must have been completed exclusively at community college(s). Any enrollment at a four-year college or university after high school graduation disqualifies the applicant.
2. Minimum GPA
- A minimum combined cumulative college GPA of 3.50 from all post-secondary institutions attended is required.
3. Minimum community college units
- At least 36 units completed at a community college must be on record at the time of admission to the University of Arizona.
- “Total attempted college units” includes all attempted coursework from accredited post–high school institutions as well as dual enrollment units. Attendance at unaccredited institutions or non-credit coursework does not affect eligibility.
4. Phi Theta Kappa membership indicated on transcript
- Phi Theta Kappa affiliation must appear on the community college transcript. If the college does not list Phi Theta Kappa on the transcript, submit a copy of your Phi Theta Kappa certificate to the Undergraduate Admissions Office at [email protected].
Application Process
Submitting a completed Arizona Transfer Admission Application for either Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 serves as the application for this scholarship (no separate scholarship application is required).
Deadlines
- Fall 2024 admits: complete the admission application by July 1, 2024.
- Spring 2025 admits: complete the admission application by December 1, 2024.
Eligibility (Additional Requirements)
- Citizenship/immigration status: Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, demonstrate lawful immigration status, or be a qualifying non-citizen Arizona high school graduate receiving in-state tuition under Proposition 308.
- Degree objective: Must be pursuing a first bachelor’s degree at the undergraduate level.
- Timing of award use: The scholarship must be applied beginning in the term for which it was offered (either Fall 2024 or Spring 2025).
Renewal Conditions
To maintain the scholarship for a subsequent academic year, recipients must satisfy the University’s standard minimum renewal criteria by the end of the academic year (including fall, winter, spring, and summer terms). Failure to meet those renewal requirements will result in loss of the award for the following year.
