Overview
Second-year students enrolled in post-secondary programs — including universities, specialized institutes, or trade schools — are eligible to apply for a scholarship of at least $1,000.
Eligibility
- Must be entering or currently in the second year of study at a university, specialized educational institution, or trade school.
- Residency/secondary-education requirement (one of the following):
- Attended a Valley County High School for three consecutive years and graduated from that Valley County High School; OR
- Lived in Valley County for the three years immediately prior to earning a Home School Certificate or a GED and present that credential.
- Must have completed a minimum of one year of post-secondary study at the institution where they are enrolled.
Application requirements
- Academic standing: Maintain a cumulative scholastic average of at least 2.8. Include a current college transcript with the application.
- Financial need: Provide a written paragraph explaining the applicant’s specific financial need and how scholarship funds would affect their ability to continue education.
- Community involvement: Demonstrate participation in community service or activities (examples: church involvement, 4-H, Key Club, Scouts, volunteering at hospitals or nursing homes, etc.).
- Letters of recommendation: Submit two letters of recommendation that are signed, dated, and no more than one year old at the time of application. At least one of these letters must be from the applicant’s secondary institution (e.g., high school).
- Goals statement: Write a paragraph or longer describing academic objectives and career plans.
Notes
- All required documents (transcript, recommendation letters, statements of need and goals) should accompany the application to be considered complete.
- Scholarship award is a minimum of $1,000.
