Introductory overview Each year Boreal Waters distributes more than $800,000 in scholarship awards to learners throughout northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. Funded by the generosity of donors—individuals, families, and local organizations—these scholarships are intended to help students at any stage of life continue their education, expand opportunities, and contribute to their communities.
Who should consider applying If you are preparing to attend a college, technical school, or another accredited post-secondary program, we encourage you to explore our scholarship opportunities. Awards are open to learners of varying ages and backgrounds who live in or attend school in the Boreal Waters service area.
Finding awards that fit you Use the search tool on our site to locate scholarships that match your geographic area, interests, and personal background. The majority of awards are accessed through a single, universal application.
Key dates and timeline
- Applications open: December 1, 2025
- Application deadline: February 24, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.
- Award notifications: Recipients will be informed by email no later than May 1, 2026
- Scholarship payments to schools:
- Fall semester: by July 30, 2026
- Spring semester: by December 30, 2026
How to submit your application
- Access the scholarship portal on December 1, 2025, when it becomes available.
- Create an account if you are a first-time user; returning applicants may sign in with their existing credentials.
- Take the short eligibility quiz to identify scholarships that match your qualifications and goals.
- Complete the universal application—one application covers most awards. Certain scholarships may include a few additional, specific questions.
- Submit your application by February 24, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. and monitor your application status and any updates through the portal.
