Dorothy and Dick Burgess Scholarship

The Dorothy and Dick Burgess Scholarship was created with the aim of supporting deserving young scholars who may not have the financial means to pursue higher education at a smaller Michigan college. Dick Burgess, who self-funded his own college education, understands the transformative power of education and wishes to extend this opportunity to the youth in his community.
Qualification Criteria:
- Must be a resident of Jackson County, Michigan
- Applicant can be a graduating high school senior, a home-schooled student, or a previous recipient of the scholarship
- Must provide evidence of financial need
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Should exhibit good citizenship, high moral character, and show potential for leadership and academic success
- Intends to pursue a degree in earth science, engineering, premedical studies, or Christian ministry
- Must be enrolled in a smaller, public, and accredited Michigan 2 or 4-year college or university
- Intends to complete a baccalaureate degree within four consecutive years
Scholarship Guidelines: The scholarship committee may request an interview at their discretion.
Renewability: Yes, the scholarship can be renewed up to three times
Scholarship Amount: Recipients can receive up to $4,000.
Use of Scholarship: The scholarship can be used for tuition, books, fees, or other academic-related expenses.
*A smaller public Michigan college is defined as a 2 or 4-year College or University with annual tuition costs not exceeding $17,000. Eligible institutions include (but are not limited to) Central Michigan University, Eastern Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, Jackson College, Michigan Technological University, or Western Michigan University. Institutions that do not qualify include (but are not limited to) the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Hillsdale College, or Spring Arbor University.
