About Kalamazoo Community Foundation (KZCF)
KZCF believes education is a vital pathway to opportunity but recognizes that the cost of continuing education can be a major barrier. Committed to making Kalamazoo County a more equitable place to live, KZCF provides financial assistance to students pursuing their educational goals.
Scholarships and the application process
KZCF administers more than 60 scholarships and grants for students at various stages — undergraduate, graduate, and career training. Rather than completing multiple forms, applicants fill out one online General Scholarship application; the system then evaluates and matches candidates to appropriate scholarships and grants.
Before you begin — important reminders
- Complete the FAFSA before starting the General Scholarship application. You will need your Student Aid Index (SAI) from that FAFSA.
- For the best experience, use a desktop computer, laptop, or tablet; we do not recommend applying via a phone.
- The application platform lets you save your progress and exit at any time — you won’t lose entries. Make sure you return and submit when finished.
- Awards cannot be made to institutions located outside of the United States.
What the General Scholarship application asks for
- Basic personal and educational information, plus details about your involvement in school and community activities.
- Three self-reflection answers, each between 50 and 300 words.
- Your Student Aid Index (SAI) as reported on your completed FAFSA.
Additional materials and next steps
Some individual scholarships have extra requirements. After you submit the General Scholarship application, check your Kaleidoscope dashboard to see if any scholarships you are eligible for require supplemental items. These might include letters of recommendation, extra written responses, financial documentation from your school about education costs, or uploads of academic or creative work.
Ready to apply? Complete the FAFSA, gather any supporting materials you may need, and start your General Scholarship application through the KZCF portal.
