Overview
Since 1995, BECU has provided more than $3.5 million in scholarship funding to 1,305 of its student members.
BECU Foundation — Purpose
The BECU Foundation exists to raise and distribute funds for educational scholarships. Guided by the credit union ideal of members supporting one another, the foundation provides financial support to BECU members and their families. Awards celebrate and encourage community service, leadership, and academic promise.

Contributions to the BECU Foundation are tax-deductible. A donation of $1.00 or more to the BECU Foundation may qualify you for BECU membership. The BECU Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. For more information, email [email protected].
Partnerships and Scholarships
Washington State Opportunity Scholarship (WSOS)
- The BECU Foundation continues its partnership with the Washington State Opportunity Scholarship program. Members who received a WSOS award in 2025 may qualify to renew that scholarship.
- WSOS supports Washington students preparing for high-demand careers in trades, health care, and STEM fields. It offers two scholarship tracks:
Baccalaureate Scholarship
- Provides up to $22,500 in financial support, plus access to career-start services, for students in eligible STEM and health care bachelor’s programs at qualified public or private colleges and universities in Washington state.
- The application opens each January.
Career & Technical Scholarship (CTS)
- Offers up to $1,500 per quarter, payable for the length of an eligible associate degree, certificate, or apprenticeship program in trade, STEM, or health care fields at any of Washington’s 34 community and technical colleges.
- CTS applications are accepted twice yearly (March and September).

College Success Foundation
We also maintain a partnership with the College Success Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding college access for low-income students, underserved communities, BIPOC students, and first-generation college attendees.
Award Details (BECU Foundation / College Success Foundation)
- Individual scholarships are $2,500 and are renewable for two years, for a total of $5,000 per recipient.
- Through corporate partners, member gifts, and fundraising, the foundation grants at least 64 scholarships annually.
2025 Application Period
- Application opens: 12/1/2025
- Application closes: 1/31/2026
Who Is Eligible
To apply for these BECU Foundation scholarships, applicants must:
- Be a BECU member and the primary account holder at the time the application is submitted. The account must be separate from a parent or guardian’s account.
- Be a graduating high school senior or an undergraduate student enrolled in a two-year, four-year, or technical college or university. Graduate students are not eligible.
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.
Selection Process and Required Materials
Scholarship decisions reflect the foundation’s commitment to social responsibility; awards are based on community service involvement, leadership, and academic potential. Applicants must submit:
- Documented community service hours
- Cumulative GPA
- Current academic transcript
- Short-answer and essay responses describing commitment to higher education and community service
Awards are granted without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, marital status, age, or disability. Immediate relatives of members of the BECU Foundation, BECU Board of Directors, BECU Supervisory Committee, the BECU Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee, or BECU Executive Management are ineligible to apply.
Renewal Information
- BECU Foundation scholarships may be renewed for one additional year after the initial award year. Renewal requires continuous, full-time enrollment and satisfactory academic progress; no exceptions will be made.
