ExxonMobil Engineering Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by League of United Latin American Citizens
Overview
Founded in 1975 by LNESC in collaboration with LULAC, the LULAC National Scholarship Fund (LNSF) was created to help make college attainable for deserving students. LNSF operates through a grassroots-to-corporate model: funds raised locally by LULAC Councils are matched by corporate partners secured by LNESC, which increases the total scholarship dollars awarded under both the council and corporate names. Past LNSF recipients have gone on to leadership roles in business, science, government, and education. A competitive selection process helps ensure that future awardees meet high standards of achievement and promise.
Eligibility
To be considered for an LNSF award, applicants must satisfy all of the following:
- Be a U.S. citizen, a lawful permanent resident, or an individual granted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
- Have applied to or be enrolled as a full-time student at a college or university, including two-year institutions or vocational programs that lead to an associate degree. Graduate students must have applied to or be enrolled as part-time students.
- Not be related to a member of the scholarship committee, the local LULAC Council President, or any individual contributor to that Council’s local funds.
- Have a participating LULAC Council in their area. Only applicants with an associated participating Council may submit the application — check the list of participating LULAC Councils before beginning the application. If there is no participating Council in your area, you are not eligible.
Award Categories and Criteria
LNSF offers three types of awards. Academic performance is a primary factor, but other elements such as financial need, leadership, community involvement, personal motivation, and integrity are also considered (often assessed via essays and interviews).
- National Scholastic Achievement Awards — $2,000
- Typically for students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
- Honors Awards — $500 to $2,000
- Typically for students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
- General Awards — $250 to $1,000
- While grades are considered, greater weight may be given to the applicant’s personal qualities, motivation, need, community service, and leadership.
Application & Deadline
The LNSF application is currently open. Completed applications must be submitted online to a local participating LULAC Council by March 31, 2026. Confirm a participating Council in your area before applying; applicants without a participating local Council are not eligible for consideration.
