Overview

Boise State University serves students on the Boise campus and worldwide through online programs. The university emphasizes a culture of innovation and leadership known as Blue Turf Thinking. This page summarizes the steps to apply for admission and maximize eligibility for university and state scholarships. Follow the steps in order to ensure timely consideration for both automatic and need-based awards.

Description: Information here covers admission-based scholarship consideration, required financial aid forms, application timelines, and state grant programs relevant to Idaho students.

  • Admissions applications are the primary gateway to scholarship consideration.
  • Financial aid and university scholarship applications increase funding opportunities.
  • State programs may provide additional support for eligible Idaho students.

Step One: Apply for Admission

Submitting a complete admission application is the first step to scholarship consideration. A complete application includes the admissions form plus all required transcript(s). Applicants are automatically considered for certain scholarships when their file is complete; no separate scholarship application is required for those automatic awards. Ensure all materials arrive by the deadlines described in Step Two to remain eligible.

Description: Automatic scholarship consideration is tied to receipt of a complete admissions file; missing documents can delay or prevent scholarship evaluation.

  • Submit admissions application and official transcripts.
  • No separate application is required for automatic scholarships.
  • Meeting deadlines is essential for consideration.

Step Two: Meet the Deadlines

Boise State maintains distinct deadlines for resident new and transfer students, nonresident new and transfer students, and graduate applicants. Scholarship notifications for automatic awards are sent with the admission letter, and awarded scholarships appear in the Student Center about three weeks after an admissions decision. Review the Find Scholarships section for dates specific to your student type, and complete the FAFSA and the Boise State Scholarship Application to maximize funding opportunities.

Application Timeline: Deadlines vary by student type; automatic scholarship notifications accompany admission decisions and awards become visible in the Student Center roughly three weeks after a decision.

  • Check the Find Scholarships section for specific deadlines by student category.
  • Automatic scholarship decisions are communicated via the admission letter.
  • Complete financial aid and scholarship applications to increase funding options.

Step Three: Complete the FAFSA

Submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required to be considered for federal aid and many need-based scholarships. The fall priority deadline is mid-February; the spring priority deadline is at the start of October for both the FAFSA and the Federal Student Aid Estimator. The final federal deadline for the 2026–2027 academic year is June 30, 2027, but earlier submission speeds evaluation and award offers. Complete both the FAFSA and the Boise State Scholarship Application for full consideration.

Eligibility: Students who do not meet FAFSA citizenship criteria may still qualify for need-based Boise State scholarships by completing the scholarship application and the Federal Student Aid Estimator; email the Estimator results to [email protected] with your student ID.

  • Priority deadlines: mid-February (fall) and start of October (spring).
  • Final FAFSA submission date for 2026–2027: June 30, 2027.
  • Non-citizens may use the Federal Student Aid Estimator to pursue need-based scholarships.

Step Four: Complete the Boise State Scholarship Application

Complete the Boise State Scholarship Application to be considered for the widest set of university-funded scholarships. The application typically opens in mid-November and most scholarship opportunities close by mid-February. Scholarship recipients receive notification via BroncoMail, and all awards are finalized by May 1. International students should use the separate international student scholarship application as noted on the international student scholarships page.

Application Timeline: Scholarship application opens mid-November, most opportunities close mid-February, and awards are made by May 1.

  • Apply early to access the most scholarship opportunities.
  • Recipients are notified through BroncoMail.
  • International applicants should complete the international scholarship application.

Step Five: Apply for State Scholarships

Idaho students should explore state-sponsored programs in addition to university awards; nonresidents may skip this step. Next Steps Idaho administers the LAUNCH grant, which covers a portion of tuition and fees for eligible in-demand career programs. This grant is a one-time opportunity designed to support workforce-aligned training and education. Review program eligibility and application requirements through Next Steps Idaho for details.

Award Value: The LAUNCH program can cover 80% of tuition and fees for select programs, up to a maximum of $8,000.

  • Nonresidents are generally exempt from state scholarship eligibility.
  • LAUNCH targets in-demand career programs and is a one-time grant.
  • Award amount: up to 80% of tuition and fees, maximum $8,000.
