Overview Michigan State University’s Alumni Scholarship provides a $1,000 annual award to eligible new students — either incoming first-year freshmen or transfer students — who are related to an MSU alumnus or alumna. Eligible relationships include being the child, grandchild, spouse, or parent of someone who graduated from MSU. Alumni (donor) requirements The MSU graduate relative must hold an associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree from Michigan State and be an active donor to the MSU Foundation. A minimum contribution of $100 to the Alumni Scholarship fund at the MSU Foundation is required for the student to qualify. Student admission deadlines and eligibility - New freshmen: Must be unconditionally admitted to MSU by the priority scholarship deadline of March 15. - New transfer students: Must be unconditionally admitted to MSU by the transfer priority scholarship deadline of June 15. Renewal and duration The scholarship may be renewed for up to four years (total), provided the student continues to meet MSU’s academic eligibility requirements and the alumni relative makes the required qualifying contribution to the Alumni Scholarship fund each year. Additional notes Awards are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis until available funds are exhausted. Early completion of the required steps is recommended to maximize the chance of receiving this scholarship.
