Mechanic/Engineer Opportunities — Pete Riedl Scholarship

The Pete Riedl Scholarship honors the engineering and leadership contributions of Pete Riedl to the vertical flight community. It provides one recipient with full tuition and a stipend to attend an aviation maintenance course at Robinson Helicopter Company’s training facility. The award also includes complimentary VERTICON registration for the recipient and a guest; travel and hotel expenses remain the recipient’s responsibility. Selection prioritizes candidates entering or recently completed AMT training and who demonstrate professional promise.

Description: Full tuition and a stipend to attend a maintenance course at Robinson Helicopter Company; recognition in honor of Pete Riedl.

Eligibility: Must be a VAI member and be about to graduate from an FAA-approved Part 147 AMT school or international equivalent, or have received an A&P certificate within the last two years.

  • Technician certificates (legible copies, front and back, of FAA or international-equivalent certificates)
  • Proof of enrollment: a letter from the FAA-approved Part 147 school (representative name, title, organization, mailing address, telephone, email, and verification of Part 147 or international-equivalent status)
  • Two letters of recommendation:
    • One from the AMT program director, administrator, or instructor including contact details, length of relationship, and comments on attitude, integrity, and motivation
    • One from an employer, instructor, or other professional who can attest to aviation background, training, and experience with similar contact and evaluative details
  • Honors Pete Riedl; supports Robinson Helicopter maintenance training.

Bill Sanderson Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Scholarship

The Bill Sanderson AMT Scholarship funds attendance at maintenance courses provided by leading airframe and powerplant manufacturers. Recipients receive full tuition and a monetary stipend to attend approved manufacturer programs. Eligible manufacturers include major OEMs that provide specialized training relevant to helicopter maintenance and propulsion systems. The award also includes complimentary VERTICON registration for the recipient and a guest; travel and lodging are the recipient’s responsibility.

BELL 505 B2 Integrated Avionics Maintenance Technician Scholarship

Presented by Bell, this scholarship supports technicians seeking specialized avionics maintenance training for the Bell 505 B2 platform. The award covers full tuition for Bell’s 505 B2 Integrated Avionics Maintenance Course and provides a stipend to offset travel and lodging expenses. Recipients also receive complimentary VERTICON registration for themselves and a guest; travel and hotel costs are the recipient’s responsibility. The scholarship targets established avionics technicians and applicants holding an A&P license.
