Pi Lambda Theta, a branch of PDK International, ranks among the nation’s leading honor societies for education. Founded in 1910, it honors students who plan to enter the teaching profession. With more than 185,000 members inducted nationwide, membership represents a dedication to scholastic achievement and to the field of education. Eligibility Pi Lambda Theta maintains rigorous academic standards. Candidates may join as undergraduates, graduate students, or education professionals. Undergraduate membership - Who may apply: Undergraduates planning a career in education with at least sophomore standing and a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. (If your institution does not use a 4.0 scale, please contact us for guidance.) - Benefits and notes by class standing: - Sophomores: Receive an initiation pin and one year of membership upon joining. - Juniors: Receive a special Pi Lambda Theta “Educator” pin and one year of membership. - Seniors: Receive graduation cords to wear at commencement. - All undergraduate inductees receive a personalized, downloadable certificate. - Sophomore and junior members must renew their membership annually through their senior year to retain recognition and associated honors. Graduate membership - Applicants should have completed at least two courses in a graduate program. If a graduate applicant has not yet taken two graduate courses, use the undergraduate GPA for eligibility assessment. Professional membership - Open to educators or professionals who have contributed to education and who hold at least a bachelor’s degree. - Eligibility requires a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for the most advanced degree or credential earned.
