Statement of Philosophy
The American Hackney Horse Society Foundation established this scholarship program to support incoming college freshmen who show financial need, a demonstrated dedication to the Hackney industry, and strong academic achievement.
Scholarship overview
- Award: $2,500 AHHHS Foundation Scholarship
- Eligibility: High school graduates who will be incoming freshmen at a college, university, or other postsecondary institution
- Purpose: To recognize academic success, financial need, involvement with Hackney horses and/or ponies, extracurricular activities (including community service), and personal references
Selection criteria and process
Applications will be evaluated based on academic records, evidence of financial need, extracurricular and community involvement, participation in the Hackney community, and recommendations. Candidates may also be asked to participate in an interview as part of the selection process.
Required materials and deadline
To be considered, applicants must submit a completed application, letters of reference, and a photo suitable for publication. All required materials must be received by July 15 of the year in which the applicant will enter college as a freshman. Please consult the application checklist for full submission details.
Award payment and conditions
The $2,500 scholarship will be paid one time only and will be sent directly to the recipient’s accredited institution to cover educational expenses. Applications and supporting documents are confidential and will not be returned. The Scholarship Selection Committee’s decision is final.
