Philosophy Explanation: The American Hackney Horse Society Foundation's Scholarship Program aims to financially support an incoming first-year college student who shows financial need, dedication to the Hackney industry, and academic achievement. AHHS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP The AHHS Foundation Scholarship is awarded to graduating high school students. The selection is based on their academic accomplishments, financial need, participation in extracurricular activities including community service, engagement with Hackney Horses and/or Ponies, and personal references. There might also be an interview process. The deadline for submitting the completed application, reference letters, and a publishable photo is July 15th of the year the applicant will be starting college as a freshman. Please refer to the checklist provided with the application. The scholarship amount, $2,500, administered by the American Hackney Horse Society Foundation, will be directly paid to the educational institution for covering educational expenses. Each individual can only receive the scholarship once. All the information provided in the application will be strictly confidential. No application will be returned and the Scholarship Selection Committee's decision will be final. ESSAY Please write a concise essay about your school experiences, special interests, hobbies, and involvement with the Hackney Breed. Also, provide a separate list of your extracurricular activities and community service. Avoid listing horse show wins. The main goal is to give the Selection Committee a clear picture of your potential career paths, personal goals, strengths, and unique ideas. You can also include any special personal or family circumstances. Note: Essays should be typed separately. Include three personal references, one of which should be from your school. I confirm that the information provided in this scholarship application is accurate to the best of my knowledge, and the essay is my original work. I understand and agree that if all necessary components are not received by the AHHSF office by July 1st, the application will not be considered by the Scholarship Committee. Requirements: - Active membership in the American Hackney Horse Society - Can be an amateur or professional - Involvement in the show horse industry - Eligibility extends to participants in the Hackney, Saddlebred, Morgan, and Road Horse categories (limited to two lifetime grant awards). Intention: The grant is intended to acknowledge and aid an individual who exemplifies and pursues the qualities that Joe Crawford Harrod valued. Applicant must demonstrate: - Exceptional Sportsmanship - Appreciation of Camaraderie & Friendship - Appreciation of Teamwork & Confidence Building - Care and Compassion for Ponies/Horses To apply for the Grant: Alongside a minimum of two recommendations from active participants in the show horse industry, the applicant must submit a written essay and/or a 2-3 minute video explaining: - The program, school, internship, work-study, or other show horse activity for which the Grant Funds will be used - The reason for applying for the Grant Funds - The objectives the applicant will accomplish through the use of the Grant Funds - The amount requested by the applicant (up to $2,500) - Contact Information (address, phone, e-mail)
