California Interscholastic Federation Spirit of Sport Award

This accolade is designed to honor one male and one female athlete from each sporting season (Fall/Winter/Spring) across the state. The selection criteria include exceptional sportsmanship, community service, and leadership skills.
Each traditional sporting season (Fall, Winter, Spring) will have two State winners (1 male and 1 female), making a total of six (6) winners. Each winner will receive a patch, an award, and a $2,500 scholarship. It is mandatory for State recipients to attend the CIF State Federated Council event on Friday, April 5, 2024, at the San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront.
Furthermore, one male and one female student-athlete from each of the 10 CIF Sections will be chosen from each sporting season (Fall/Winter/Spring), totaling 60 winners. Each of these winners will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
Each CIF member school has the opportunity to nominate one male and one female senior athlete for each sporting season. The nominated student-athletes will complete the application and upload the necessary signed principal verification form.
This accolade aims to acknowledge one male and one female student-athlete from each sporting season (Fall/Winter/Spring) who demonstrate commendable sportsmanship and leadership within their school, irrespective of their athletic prowess. The CIF is committed to recognizing student-athletes who serve as positive role models in our schools and the wider community. The principles of integrity, fairness, character, and respect are integral to good sportsmanship. These principles foster a spirit of healthy competition, characterized by honest rivalry, polite interactions, and gracious acceptance of outcomes.

Application Guidelines & Overview:
Each CIF member school can nominate one male and one female senior athlete for each sporting season.
All applications must be fully completed before being submitted. Incomplete applications can be saved and completed at a later date by logging into your Kaleidoscope account.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Scholarship Awards – Scholarship winners will be chosen based on their demonstration of good sportsmanship, school and community service, and leadership. The CIF-selected committees will review the applications. Winners will be informed via a phone call and/or email.
- Two State winners (1 male and 1 female) will be selected for each traditional sporting season (Fall, Winter, Spring), totaling six winners. Each winner will receive a patch, an award, and a scholarship. State recipients must attend the Federated Council event on Friday, April 5, 2024, at the San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront.
- In addition, one male and one female student-athlete representing each of the 10 CIF Sections will be chosen from each sporting season (Fall/Winter/Spring), totaling 60 winners. Each of these winners will be awarded a scholarship.
