Monroe County Farm Bureau is awarding three $750 scholarships this spring to local students pursuing agricultural careers. The scholarships — the Betty Bliss Scholarship, the Dale Lynn Mason Scholarship, and the Young Farmer Memorial Scholarship — will be granted in May. Area students are encouraged to apply. Who is eligible - High school seniors or students already enrolled in post-secondary programs who are preparing for careers related to agriculture. - Approved educational settings include four-year colleges and universities, community colleges, trade schools, and vocational training programs that support the agricultural industry. - Current post-secondary students are eligible. - Farm Bureau membership is NOT required for consideration, though participation in the Young Farmer Committee is encouraged. - Recipients are expected to have an interest in returning to the local community after completing their studies. How to apply - Download the application as the Microsoft Word file titled "2024 Monroe County FB Scholarship App" from the Farm Bureau website. - Submit the completed application along with: - An essay responding to: What are your top three concerns or challenges in agriculture today? Explain how local farmers might address or overcome these challenges. - Two letters of recommendation. Deadlines and selection - Applications and supporting materials must be returned to the Monroe County Farm Bureau office in Ida by April 29. - Applicant interviews will be conducted the morning of Saturday, May 4 by the Scholarship Selection Committee. Award payment - Each scholarship winner will receive a $750 award. Payments are issued as a check made payable to both the student and the school once the recipient provides first-semester transcripts that confirm enrollment and show grades. - Past scholarship recipients may apply again so long as they remain enrolled in an agriculture-related course of study.
