Montana Cattlemen’s Association Scholarship
Overview
The Montana Cattlemen’s Association offers a $500 college scholarship to either a member or the son/daughter of a member. Applications are due by July 1. Download the application form (PDF) or request it by phone.
Eligibility
- Applicant must be a graduating senior from a Montana high school.
- Applicant must be a member of the Montana Cattlemen’s Association or the son/daughter of a member.
- Minimum cumulative grade point average: C or higher.
- Applicant must be enrolled, or plan to enroll full time, in one of the following approved institutions: an accredited college or university that awards bachelor’s degrees; an accredited junior college; an approved vocational or trade school; or a school that provides a registered nursing degree.
How Recipients Are Chosen
Scholarship awards are determined based on:
1. Academic performance
2. Involvement in the cattle industry
3. The applicant’s stated goals and the overall strength of the application
4. The amount of other financial awards the applicant has already received
Award Amount and Disbursement
- Scholarship amount: $500.
- Payment schedule: one-half of the award will be paid after proof of enrollment for the first semester; the remaining one-half will be paid after proof of enrollment for the second semester (or the equivalent payment schedule if the school uses a non-semester system).
- Funds will be issued to the college or other qualifying institution upon receipt of enrollment verification for each term. (Contact your college business office about how to provide proof of registration.)

- Include a current high school transcript and ACT or SAT scores with the application.
- Provide three letters of recommendation as part of the submission—these must accompany the application and cannot be from relatives:
- One academic reference (e.g., counselor, principal, teacher, advisor) that addresses only your academic record.
- One industry reference (e.g., veterinarian, extension educator, 4‑H or FFA leader, breed association representative, banker, livestock nutritionist) that speaks only to your involvement/experience in the cattle industry.
- One character reference (e.g., clergy, public official, volunteer program leader) that comments only on your citizenship and character.
- All application materials (completed application, current transcript, ACT/SAT scores, and all three recommendation letters) must be received by July 1 of the current year.
