Voice of Pork Scholarship — Program Overview

The Voice of Pork Scholarship supports students who want to tell the story of pork production and agriculture in creative, engaging ways. If you’re studying communications, marketing, public relations, education, or a related area and are excited about connecting consumers to the pork industry, this scholarship is for you. We seek imaginative, forward-thinking communicators who will strengthen the industry’s reputation and reach new audiences through storytelling and modern media.

Who should apply

  • Students enthusiastic about both communication and agriculture
  • Creators with strong storytelling skills and original ideas
  • Emerging influencers, marketers, and communicators ready to promote pork’s role in the food system
  • Applicants who understand and can leverage current platforms (social media, video, digital content) to engage audiences

Award details

  • Three scholarships awarded:
    • One $4,000 award
    • One $1,500 award
    • One $1,000 award
  • Winners are eligible for an additional $500 opportunity to support participation in one of the following activities:
    • Young Leaders in Agriculture Conference
    • Volunteering or supervising at the Minnesota State Fair
    • Attendance at the Minnesota Pork Congress Awards Reception

Selection process

  • A panel of Minnesota pig farmers will evaluate applications.
  • Judging criteria include clarity and expression, persuasiveness, originality, and relevance of topic.
  • Application deadline: May 15.
  • Winners will be chosen by June 1 and contacted by phone.

Eligibility requirements

  • Current high school seniors, undergraduate students, or graduate students pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, public relations, education, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in the pork industry (examples: relevant coursework, internships, farm experience, FFA/4-H involvement, research projects, etc.).
  • Must be a resident of Minnesota.
