Introduction
Ken Gale served Montrose with distinction as Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, City Councilman, and Mayor. The Montrose Chamber – Ken Gale Scholarship honors his commitment to business, public service, and community life by recognizing a student who reflects the same dedication and civic-minded spirit Mr. Gale demonstrated.
Award
For 2026 one nonrenewable scholarship of $1,500 will be awarded. This scholarship is not based on financial need.

Eligibility
Applicants must meet all of the following:
- Be either a graduating senior from a Montrose County high school or a past graduate currently attending Colorado Mesa University – Montrose Campus.
- Demonstrate meaningful community involvement that shows the applicant acted beyond themselves in service to others, reflecting the spirit of Ken Gale.
- Plan to enroll in a postsecondary program in Fall 2026, including college, university, junior college, community college, technical institute, or vocational-technical school.
Required Documents & Attachments
Applicants must submit:
- Completed online application
- Current high school transcript or current Colorado Mesa University (Montrose Campus) transcript
- Resume detailing school activities, athletic participation, community involvement, achievements, honors/awards, and work experience
- Two letters of recommendation
- Two essays
Selection
The award will go to the applicant who best embodies the values and community-oriented spirit exemplified by Ken Gale, in addition to meeting the eligibility requirements above.
