Scholarship for Children of Divorce and Single-Parent Families

A financial award in the amount of $500 will be given each year to a higher education student who has demonstrated a high degree of determination and perseverance despite the hurdles he or she may have encountered earlier in life due to parental divorce or estrangement.
Scholarship Eligibility Factors
The Edward Weinstein Scholarship for Children of Divorce and Single-Parent Families is made available to students presently enrolled in a program of study at a duly accredited junior/community college, undergraduate or graduate institution located within the United States. Eligibility is also extended to high school graduates and GED holders preparing to begin a college-level course of study.
Especially attractive candidates for the award will have the ability to articulate the ways in which they were able to overcome personal difficulties resulting from divorce within the family while also maintaining a strong commitment to bettering the world around them.
Interested candidates are required to provide evidence of good standing from their current educational institution and submit proof of a cumulative GPA of no less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Application Process
Along with a completed scholarship application candidates are required to submit:
A) Updated resume complete with current contact information and statement of current program level or student status
B) Original personal essay totaling roughly 750 words in length (Times New Roman font, 12-point is preferred) that explains a time period or scenario related to parental divorce or family circumstance which was particularly difficult, but which the student was able to overcome in order to reach a greater goal
C) Updated transcript (unofficial version acceptable if official transcript is unavailable) from candidate's current school; freshmen may submit unofficial documentation from their most recent institution attended, together with unofficial transcripts from present school
