Overview Boreal Waters awards more than $800,000 in scholarships each year to students living in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. Funded by generous individuals, families, and organizations, these awards support learners of all ages in pursuing education, expanding opportunities, and contributing back to their communities.

Most scholarships are included in our universal application, which opens in December 2025 and closes on February 24, 2026.
Richard B. Pearson Scholarship This scholarship commemorates Richard B. Pearson, who served for many years as superintendent of Duluth public schools. The award recognizes his long-standing commitment to education and is intended to encourage Duluth students to pursue careers as teachers.
Eligibility
- Graduates of Duluth Denfeld High School or Duluth East High School
- Demonstrated financial need
- Minimum GPA of 2.5
- Intending to study Elementary or Secondary Education
- Involvement in extracurricular activities, community service, or employment
Award
- $1,000 for one year
