Earl G. Hartman, Sr. and Caroline Millar Hartman Scholarship

Earl and Caroline Hartman came from humble beginnings. Earl grew up in Ohio in a close, but poor, family. He graduated high school and then completed a 2-year business school degree in 9 months’ time. Caroline’s family was also poor and moved frequently while she was growing up (18 times in 16 years) while her dad worked in oil fields around the country. Settling with her family in Mt. Pleasant in 1930, Caroline graduated from high school at the top of her class. She became a secretary at a local oil company where she met Earl, who worked for the same company as an accountant. They lived in Mt. Pleasant for most of their 42 years of marriage, and after Earl’s passing, Caroline continued to reside in town until her death in 2003.
Earl and Caroline Hartman worked hard to provide a good life for themselves and for their family. They knew the importance of a strong Catholic-based education, with all six of their children graduating from Sacred Heart Academy. They were devoted to the Catholic faith and were generous in their support of Sacred Heart Parish and Sacred Heart Academy. The Earl G. Hartman, Sr. and Caroline Millar Hartman Scholarship Fund was established in 2003 in memory of Earl and Caroline, and recognizes their strong belief in the Catholic faith and in Catholic education. They would be honored to know the scholarship created in their names was being used to further the education of worthy graduates of Sacred Heart Academy.
Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicant will be a graduating senior from Sacred Heart Academy.
- Demonstrate academic ability with a minimum 3.25 grade point average.
- Demonstrate positive attitude toward school and community.
- Financial need shall be a factor in the selection process.
