ALCOA Fund Scholarship

Overview
The ALCOA Fund Scholarship provides financial assistance to African American and Hispanic students who graduated from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District or from a Catholic school in Greater Cleveland (preference given to those from Cuyahoga County). The award is intended to help cover the costs of postsecondary study at accredited nonprofit institutions in Ohio.
Eligibility
- Must be African American or Hispanic.
- Graduate of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District or a Catholic school in the Greater Cleveland area (Cuyahoga County graduates are preferred).
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 to apply.
- Currently enrolled or planning to enroll at an accredited nonprofit college or university in Ohio.
- Enrollment may be full-time or part-time, with a minimum of 6 credit hours per term.
- Demonstrated financial need.
- Priority is given to CMSD graduates who live in the City of Cleveland.

Selection Process
Recipients are chosen based on whether applicants meet the eligibility requirements and on the completeness of their application materials, evaluated in light of the scholarship’s stated purpose and selection criteria.
Award Details
Award amounts depend on available funding and the number of recipients selected. Historically, awards have ranged from $2,000 to $5,000. College Now will formally notify selected students. Payments are made directly to the recipient’s institution and must be used for tuition, fees, required books, supplies, and/or course-related equipment.
Requirements for Recipients
- Maintain the enrollment status under which the award was granted (full-time for full-time awards; part-time recipients must continue part-time enrollment).
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75 while receiving the scholarship.
