SCAG Scholarship Program

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
RESIDENTIAL STATUS
Applicants must reside within the SCAG region, which includes Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura counties, or Tribal Lands within the SCAG region. They must also be eligible for employment in the United States. Semi-finalists may be required to provide proof of their work eligibility in the United States.
EDUCATIONAL STATUS
Applicants should either be high school seniors on the verge of graduation or students currently enrolled in a two-year community college within the SCAG region. High school seniors must commit to pursuing higher education (either at a two- or four-year college or university) immediately after graduating from high school, without taking a gap year.
ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE
Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0, based on a 4.0 unweighted scale.
- APPLICATION PROCESS
- Students interested in the SCAG Scholarship Program must complete an online application.
- A minimum 500-word essay outlining their interest in urban planning, public policy, public service, and their future career aspirations is required.
- Two recommendation letters from individuals (not related to the applicant) who can vouch for their leadership skills and interest in public service are necessary.
- Applicants must provide their current school transcript(s). Community college students must submit both their high school and community college transcripts.
Applications that reflect an interest in urban planning, public policy, public service, or related majors such as environmental planning, engineering, or political science will be given preference.
INTERNSHIP & SCAG SITE VISIT
While not mandatory, interested applicants can opt for an internship or a visit to the SCAG offices in Los Angeles to attend a Regional Council meeting. For more details, they can reach out to the SCAG Scholarship Program Coordinator.
