NCRLA Foundation Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by North Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association
Every year, the Foundation of the North Carolina Restaurant & Lodging Association grants a diverse range of scholarships to students throughout North Carolina, aiming to foster the growth of future leaders in the hospitality industry. In 2023, we distributed $32,000 in scholarships to 12 deserving students.
Chancellor’s Scholarship, Johnson & Wales University
This recurring scholarship, worth $4,000, is awarded to a high school senior who intends to attend Johnson and Wales University – Charlotte. The scholarship is renewable and is managed by Johnson & Wales University.
Davidson and Jones Hotel Corporation Scholarship
This $1,000 annual scholarship is awarded to a college junior or senior enrolled in a four-year culinary, hospitality, or related program in North Carolina.
Mary Margaret Traxler Scholarship
In honor of the late founder of the Greater Charlotte Hospitality News, this scholarship awards $2,000 to a rising sophomore or junior enrolled in a four-year culinary, hospitality, or related program in North Carolina.
William F. Carl Scholarship
This scholarship, named after the late co-founder of Golden Corral, awards $3,500 annually to eligible children of employees in the hospitality industry. William F. Carl believed that the industry’s growth and success were built on the hard work and commitment of hourly workers. The scholarship is open to any student under 24 years of age attending a two- or four-year community college or university program in North Carolina.
Vickie Clark-Flaherty Scholarship
This scholarship, in memory of the late senior product implementation manager for Golden Corral, awards $1,000 to women in the foodservice industry. Clark-Flaherty embodied the qualities necessary for success in the foodservice industry: determination, vision, and a strong work ethic.
Jimmy Alfano Scholarship
This scholarship, in honor of Angus Barn employee Jimmy Alfano, is for students with restaurant experience, with a preference for those with independent restaurant experience or a strong desire to work in an independent restaurant. Alfano was passionate about culinary arts and mentoring young people. Three scholarships are available, each worth $3,000.
Pepsi “Service that Sells” Scholarship
Pepsi recognizes that exceptional customer service is crucial to success in the hospitality industry. This scholarship is intended for ProStart students and alumni pursuing education in hospitality-related careers who have prior customer service experience in a restaurant or similar job. The scholarship amount is $2,000.
LM Restaurants’ Family Scholarship
The Moshakos family and LM Restaurants offer two annual scholarships of $2,500 each to support the higher education aspirations of their team members. Lou and Joy Moshakos are committed to providing educational opportunities for their restaurant family. These scholarships were established to assist deserving, motivated students in achieving their goals and dreams.
