ASHS Scholars Award

Introduction
The ASHS Scholars Award, created by the ASHS Board of Directors, recognizes outstanding undergraduate achievement in horticultural science and supports students pursuing careers in the field.
Award overview
Each year two scholarships of $1,500 each will be awarded to undergraduate students majoring in horticulture at four-year colleges or universities.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet all of the following:
- Be an undergraduate student (any class level) at the time of application.
- Be enrolled full-time (minimum of 10 credit hours) and actively working toward a degree in horticulture.
- Demonstrate strong academic performance in their horticulture major and in related scientific coursework.
- Show involvement in extracurricular, leadership, or research activities connected to horticulture.
- Participate in university and community service.
- Exhibit a clear commitment to a career in horticultural science or related fields.
- Possess relevant hands-on horticultural experience.
- Be a current member of ASHS.
Nomination and submission process
- Candidates must be nominated by the chair or head of their academic department. Each department may submit only one nominee.
- The nominee must submit the application form together with all required supporting documents in a single submission. Partial or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Required application materials
- A 250–500 word personal essay describing your background and commitment to horticultural science.
- A current resume or curriculum vitae.
- Three letters of reference.
Deadlines and selection
- The ASHS Scholarship Awards Committee will review all complete applications received by February 4.
- Applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision approximately May 2.
Award presentation and use of funds
- Recipients are publicly acknowledged as ASHS Scholars at the ASHS Annual Conference and are encouraged to attend the conference to accept their award in person.
- Awardees must be enrolled as students at the time the scholarship is presented (during the Annual Conference in the same calendar year as the application deadline).
- Each recipient will receive a certificate and a $1,500 check to be used for educational purposes.
