Washington Apple Education Foundation Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Washington Apple Education Foundation
Introduction
The Washington Apple Education Foundation (WAEF) is a nonprofit dedicated to helping students connected to Washington’s tree fruit sector pursue postsecondary education in any field—whether at a four-year university, community college, or vocational/technical program. Our scholarship funds are provided by local tree fruit businesses and individuals who want to invest in students from tree fruit families.
About WAEF
WAEF serves as a central resource for scholarship opportunities and complementary supports designed to promote student success. In addition to distributing scholarship awards, we provide mentoring, career-readiness programming, and other supports aimed at helping recipients persist, graduate on time, and transition into careers.
What a WAEF scholarship provides
Receiving a WAEF scholarship means more than financial aid. Recipients join a supportive community and gain access to industry mentors, invitations to workshops, farm or facility tours, job-shadow experiences, and other career-preparation activities. While you’re enrolled, we may send care packages and offer ongoing guidance from application through graduation and into your early career.
Who is eligible
- Current high school seniors and college students who have direct family ties to Washington’s tree fruit industry qualify. Examples include family employment or ownership in apple, cherry, or pear orchards, packing houses/warehouses, or related businesses.
- Applicants who do not yet have family ties may still be eligible if they intend to study for a degree and pursue a career supporting the tree fruit industry.
- Note: individual scholarships within our portfolio may carry additional, specific requirements.
Application process
Apply online through our application portal. The form asks for information about household income, extracurricular involvement, a personal statement, short-answer responses, an official transcript, and a letter of recommendation. After submission, our selection committee reviews each application, identifies all scholarships for which you qualify, and may request an interview (in-person or virtual) in some cases. The committee then evaluates candidates and makes award decisions.
Timeline
Applications are accepted beginning October 20 and must be submitted by the final deadline on March 2. Scholarship recipients will be notified by the end of May. Be sure all required materials are turned in on time.
If you have questions about eligibility, the application, or specific scholarships, contact WAEF through our website for guidance.
