Introduction The Ralph and Ruth Frank Gross Scholarship Fund was created to honor their conviction that education transforms lives. The fund is dedicated to assisting often-overlooked public servants and their families in furthering their education and improving future opportunities.
Award Scholarships are available for college, university, or vocational training and range from $500 to $2,500 per recipient.
General eligibility requirements
- Demonstrate financial need and not be the recipient of any other scholarship or grant.
- Be a resident of the State of Florida. High school seniors must submit official high school transcripts and have a combined SAT (Critical Reading + Math) score of at least 1100.
- Plan to enroll, either full- or part-time, at a college, university, or vocational school located in Florida. (Graduate students are not eligible.)
- Agree to refrain from tobacco use, illegal drugs, and alcohol abuse for the duration of the award.
- Agree not to join social sororities or fraternities while receiving the scholarship; membership in honorary, academic, or professional Greek organizations is permitted.
- Note: Applicants whose employers provide a tuition reimbursement benefit may be ineligible.
Required connection to Broward County government In addition to meeting the general requirements, applicants must satisfy at least one of the following:
- Be a current full‑time employee of a governmental entity located in Broward County.
- Be a retired or former employee who worked full‑time for a Broward County governmental entity for at least five continuous years.
- Be a former employee who became disabled as a result of performing job duties while employed full‑time for at least five years by a Broward County governmental entity.
- Be the spouse (or a former spouse of at least five years) or a child of a person who currently works full‑time for a governmental entity in Broward County; or be an employee who meets one of the conditions above or who was killed in the line of duty after at least five years of full‑time service with a Broward County governmental entity.
