As a leading distributor of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and related accessories across the country, AED Superstore is committed to promoting education and awareness about CPR and AEDs. Operating under Allied 100, LLC, AED Superstore is based in northern Wisconsin and offers a $1,000 scholarship twice a year to qualifying students.
Despite claiming over 350,000 lives annually, the dangers of out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) remain largely unknown to many. Here are six lesser-known facts about SCA and AEDs:
A) SCA can strike anyone, irrespective of age, race, or gender.
B) Approximately 16 individuals under 18 are affected by SCA daily.
C) Only 10% of people who experience SCA outside a hospital survive.
D) Without immediate defibrillation, the survival rate for SCA victims decreases by 10% each minute; after 10 minutes, chances of survival are virtually zero.
E) AEDs are equipped with voice prompts to guide rescuers through each step.
F) Good Samaritan Laws legally protect voluntary rescuers assisting those in sudden cardiac arrest distress.
Choose one of the above facts that surprised you, you were previously unaware of, OR you wish more people knew about. Develop a creative strategy to raise awareness about this fact in your community. Submit a video (under 3 minutes) or a short essay (under 500 words) detailing or demonstrating your efforts.
Your submission must include the following:
A) The fact you've chosen, prefaced with "I didn't know that…" or "I wish more people knew…"
B) Your reasons for choosing to raise awareness about this fact
C) Your method of raising awareness in your community
Eligibility for this scholarship requires you to be a legal U.S. resident and either a high school senior planning to attend college or a student currently enrolled in an accredited university.
Please note that by submitting an essay or video, you grant AED Superstore an unlimited license to use your submission in any way we deem appropriate, and you waive any copyright to your submission. If you disagree with these terms, please do not apply for the AED Superstore Scholarship.
Unless specified otherwise, scholarship checks will be made co-payable to the chosen student and their chosen university.
