AAUW — Aurora, Colorado Branch Scholarships
Overview
The AAUW Aurora, CO Branch will award scholarships to students who maintain a permanent mailing address in Aurora, Colorado and who are currently enrolled in, or planning to enroll at, an accredited college or university in Colorado. Each award is at least $2,500. The number of recipients will depend on available funds. Scholarship payments will be made directly to the recipient’s institution and applied to tuition and/or fees for the 2026–2027 academic year.
Eligibility
- Must have a permanent mailing address in Aurora, Colorado (a current campus address does not substitute).
- Must be enrolled in, or planning to attend, a fully accredited Colorado college or university.
- Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree.
- Applicants should be at least a sophomore so the award can be applied during the recipient’s junior or senior year.
- Must register for at least 6 credits per semester in a college program.
- Minimum cumulative GPA: 3.0.
How to obtain an application
Applications can be picked up from your college/university financial aid office, downloaded from the AAUW Aurora website (aurora-co.aauw.net), or requested by email: [email protected]. For questions, contact [email protected].
Deadlines and award notification
- Application deadline: April 30, 2026.
- Recipients will be selected by May 31, 2026.
Submission requirements and instructions
Email one combined PDF to [email protected] with the subject line: "2026 scholarship application". Name the file as: lastname_scholarship2026.pdf.
Required documents (single PDF):
1. Completed and signed application form.
2. Personal essay (see Essay section for details). Limit: two pages.
3. Three letters of recommendation — two must be from individuals in your college academic program (faculty or academic advisors) and the third from an employer or a supervisor at a volunteer organization. Applications with fewer than three letters will not be reviewed.
- For the two academic recommendations, please request that recommenders address:
- your intellectual curiosity and academic performance;
- your motivation; and
- your initiative and potential.
4. Unofficial transcript(s).
5. A chronological list of any colleges/universities previously attended (if different from your current institution).
Essay requirements
Attach a typed essay, 1–2 pages maximum (12-point font, standard margins). In the essay, introduce yourself and respond to the following prompts:
1. What has motivated you to attend college or university at this time?
2. What are your career objectives or goals after graduation?
3. How would this scholarship help you complete your degree and reach those goals?
4. Are you employed? If so, indicate full-time or part-time and briefly describe your job.
5. Volunteer activities: list organization name, type of service, dates, and your role.
6. Describe a recent experience that left you with a strong sense of satisfaction, accomplishment, or pride.
