Louise McBee Georgia Scholarship

Purpose / Overview This scholarship supports the educational growth of women who demonstrate leadership promise in the field of higher education. Who is eligible Applicants must: - Be female. - Either: - Be enrolled at a public or private Georgia institution of higher learning (two-year or four-year, college, university, or technical institute) and be actively working toward a master’s, specialist, or doctoral degree in higher education or education politics; or - Be employed (administrative or instructional role) at a public or private Georgia institution of higher learning (two-year or four-year, college, university, or technical institute) and pursuing professional development related to higher education or education politics. - Demonstrate financial need (for example, need to continue graduate study or lack of employer support for professional development). - If currently a student, maintain good academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. - Provide two current letters of support, at least one of which must come from the applicant’s current employer or a faculty member. - Include a résumé or curriculum vitae with the application. Permitted uses of the award Funds from the Louise McBee Scholarship may be applied to: - Tuition, fees, textbooks, and other educational expenses associated with graduate study or continuing education in the field. - Workshops, seminars, or similar activities that develop leadership skills for women in higher education or education politics. - Research that advances the success of women in higher education or in the political arena. - Creation or enhancement of programs and models designed to strengthen women’s leadership development. Application materials and deadline The completed application form, two current letters of support (with at least one from the present employer or a faculty member), and a résumé/CV must be received by December 9, 2024. Scholarship announcements will be circulated to Georgia institutions of higher education. Selection process The Louise McBee Scholarship Committee, a standing committee of the Georgia Association for Women in Higher Education (GAWHE), selects the recipient. Evaluation will consider: 1. Achievements or goals that reflect the spirit and legacy of Louise McBee. 2. Demonstrated leadership potential and/or a strong academic record. 3. The completeness and quality of the application package, written statement, and references. 4. Evidence of financial or other need.
