Overview The Leadership & Scholarship Program is the flagship initiative of the Chicana Latina Foundation. Each year CLF awards merit-based scholarships of $1,500 to a cohort of 40–45 Latina students (typically up to 45 recipients). The online application window opens January 1, 2025 and closes March 31, 2025. Who we seek Scholars are chosen based on demonstrated alignment with CLF’s mission and potential to lead. Selection factors include: - A demonstrated commitment to equity and justice for Chicana and Latina women - Proven leadership and service on behalf of Latinx communities - Clear academic and career goals - Evidence of overcoming personal challenges - Strong academic record What recipients receive and are expected to do Selected students join a year-long program with the following components: - Attendance at all Leadership Institute sessions on July 25–27, 2025 and in February 2026 - A $1,500 scholarship, disbursed in two installments - Invitation to the Annual Award Dinner in January 2026 - Service as a CLF Ambassador during the 2026 application cycle, completing 10 hours of campus outreach Eligibility requirements Applicants must satisfy every item below: - Self-identify as Chicana and/or Latina - Be enrolled at an accredited college, university, or community college located in one of these Northern California counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, Napa, Sacramento, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, San Francisco, Sonoma, or Yolo - Have lived at least two (2) years in one of the counties listed above at the time of application For community college and undergraduate applicants: - Be enrolled full-time (as defined by your institution) for the Fall 2025 – Spring 2026 academic year - Have completed at least 12 college units after high school graduation (note: college credits earned while still in high school do not meet this requirement) - Maintain a cumulative college GPA of 2.0 or higher For graduate/professional applicants: - Be currently enrolled in graduate/professional studies or have been accepted to a graduate/professional program for the Fall 2025 – Spring 2026 academic year (this may include students completing coursework, a thesis, or a dissertation) - Maintain a cumulative college GPA of at least 2.7 All applicants must be able to commit to attending the required events listed above. Required application materials Submit the following as part of your application: - Responses to 5 Personal Insight Questions - Current college transcripts (unofficial copies are acceptable) - One letter of recommendation from a professor, counselor, or community member who can speak to your leadership, civic involvement, academic performance, and personal qualities - Graduate applicants must also upload a current resume or curriculum vitae (CV) If you are selected as a semi-finalist, you will be asked to attend an in-person interview on June 7, 2025. Reapplying and contact information Previous CLF scholarship recipients may reapply beginning four years after the year they received the award.
