Scholarship Overview
The Marth Creighton Family and Consumer Sciences Scholarship ($1,000) will be awarded to a qualified applicant who meets the requirements below.
Eligibility
- Applicant must be a graduate of a high school in Virginia.
- Applicant must be pursuing coursework in Family and Consumer Sciences or a closely related field.
- The chosen program must lead to a Bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences and/or make the student eligible for a Collegiate Professional Certificate.
Application deadlines and notification
- The VATFACS Executive Board establishes the deadline for submitting a completed application.
- The selected recipient will be notified by May 30 of the year in which the application was submitted.
Selection criteria
- Preference will be given to the candidate demonstrating the greatest financial need.
- Applications will be considered only if every required section is completed and all requested attachments are included.
Award disbursement and refund policy
- A check for $1,000 will be mailed by July 31 to the treasurer of the college where the recipient is enrolled.
- If the recipient fails to complete the planned program or withdraws during the scholarship year, the recipient’s college shall return any unused portion of the scholarship to the treasurer of VATFACS.
Post-award requirements
- By May 1 at the close of the scholarship year, the recipient must request that the college registrar send an official transcript of grades to the Past President of VATFACS via Virginia’s Family and Consumer Sciences Specialist, Virginia Department of Education, P.O. Box 2120, Richmond, Virginia 23218-2120.
- The recipient must also submit a written report on personal progress to the Past President of VATFACS by July 1 following the scholarship year.
Application completeness and compliance with these policies are required for award consideration and continued receipt of funds.
