Cancer Support Scholarship

Scholarship Sponsored by Lep Foundation for Youth Education

Value: $5,000.00
Awards Available: 4

Introduction
The Lep Foundation for Youth Education, a public charity that supports students in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania who need financial help to continue their studies, created the John Lepping Memorial Scholarship. This award honors John Lepping’s admiration for students with disabilities who persevere to complete their higher education despite significant obstacles.

Purpose and Award Amount
The scholarship assists eligible students in pursuing postsecondary education by providing awards up to $5,000. Its purpose is to help offset college-related expenses for individuals whose medical and related costs create a financial barrier to continuing their education.

Who is Eligible
- Applicants must be permanent residents of New York, New Jersey, or Pennsylvania.
- The scholarship is intended for students with disabilities. Examples include, but are not limited to, physical conditions (spinal cord injury, limb loss, congenital defects) and neuropsychological/mental health conditions (autism spectrum disorders, post‑traumatic stress disorder, etc.).
- Documentation confirming a disability is required, in the form of a physician’s letter. Do not include this documentation with your application; proof will be requested only after an award decision has been made.

Selection Criteria
- Academic performance: candidates should demonstrate they are working to their academic potential. Official grade records must support academic claims.
- Admission: applicants must be accepted to an institution of higher education, including colleges, community colleges, universities, or vocational schools.
- All required application items must be received for an application to be considered.

Required Application Materials
To be eligible, submit all of the following:
1. A one‑page essay describing your disability and explaining how it creates financial challenges for you and your family. Include your educational and career goals and future plans.
2. An official copy of your school transcript (grades must be verifiable).
3. Three letters of recommendation from individuals who are not family members.

How to Submit
- All materials must be included for the application to be reviewed.
- Electronic submission is preferred: send PDFs or DOC files only to [email protected]. Do not send JPG files.
- If mailing your materials, please do not use staples.

Note: Physician confirmation of disability will be requested only after award notification; do not send physician letters with your initial application.
