Associated General Contractors of Alaska, Inc. (AGC of Alaska) Scholarship Program
Overview
The AGC of Alaska scholarship program supports students who intend to build careers in Alaska’s construction industry or in fields that support it. Awards are available to applicants pursuing trade training or postsecondary degrees in areas such as construction management, engineering, architecture, design, the skilled trades, or related support professions (for example: safety, accounting, insurance, bonding, human resources, and other service roles).
Funding and Timeline
- Application deadline: March 31, 2025 at midnight Alaska time (all materials must be received by this deadline).
- Total scholarships awarded: Up to $40,000 in aggregate, determined by the AGC Workforce Development Committee Review team.
- Notification of award decisions: Recipients will be informed no later than May 1, 2025.
Program Objective
To promote and encourage the next generation of professionals working in Alaska’s construction sector by providing financial assistance to students committed to relevant careers.
Who Is Eligible
Applicants must:
- Plan to pursue a career in the construction industry or a related/supportive field (examples include accounting, insurance, bonding, human resources, safety, design, engineering, architecture, construction management, trades, etc.).
- Be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident and a current resident of Alaska.
- Submit a complete application package with the required PDF attachments (see Required Documents).
Required Documents (ALL must be PDF files)
1. Career goals essay — one page, maximum 500 words.
2. Personal essay — one page, maximum 500 words (describe hobbies, connection to the industry, work/school status, family responsibilities, etc.).
3. Recent transcripts — a copy of the most applicable transcripts (high school or college, depending on your status).
4. Two (2) letters of recommendation — written within the last two years.
Selection Criteria
Applications are evaluated by the AGC Workforce Development Committee Review team using the following factors:
- Career goals: quality and clarity of the career goals essay.
- Extracurricular and life activities: work while attending school, family obligations, community or college involvement, leadership roles, honors/awards, athletics, and work experience as described in the personal essay.
- Recommendations: strength of two letters of recommendation (preferably from teachers or employers familiar with the applicant’s abilities and work history), both no older than two years.
- Academic record: review of submitted transcripts.
How to Apply / Submission Requirements
- Submit the completed application online by March 31, 2025 at midnight Alaska time.
- All supporting materials (essays, transcripts, recommendation letters) must be uploaded as PDF files.
- It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure the application packet is complete and all files are in the required format.
