Linda S. Montross New Latin Educators Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by National Latin Exam
Overview Each spring, up to ten scholarships of $2,000 are awarded to students preparing to teach Latin in K–12 schools. Applicants should note the application deadline is February 15. Award amount, frequency, and renewal - Up to ten recipients receive $2,000 each year in the spring. - Awards may be renewed while the recipient remains enrolled in an eligible degree program and intends to teach Latin at the K–12 level. Maximum total support is four years for students pursuing a bachelor’s degree and two years for those in a master’s program. The scholarship committee may grant exceptions at its discretion. Professional development and mentoring - The NLE will cover the cost for each recipient to attend one American Classical League Institute that takes place anytime from the end of the recipient’s junior year in college through their third year of teaching. If a recipient lives outside the United States, an equivalent professional development opportunity may be funded instead. More information on the conference is available at https://aclclassics.org/. - Upon request, recipients can receive informal mentorship from experienced Latin teachers during their first three years in the classroom. Who may apply - Candidates do not have to have participated in the National Latin Exam to be eligible. - Eligible applicants include high school seniors, undergraduates, and students enrolled in master’s programs. - Applicants must plan to teach Latin at the K–12 level. Restrictions - Individuals currently receiving another National Latin Exam award are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
