Since 2009, ISF has offered scholarships, internships, fellowships, and film grants to students studying law, policy, film, and media. The program’s purpose is to support and develop American Muslims who are influencing public opinion and shaping public policy.
Program overview
- Fellowship participants are placed in congressional offices to gain hands-on experience in drafting, advancing, and implementing public policy. Fellows also receive training in crafting inclusive policies that protect the needs of marginalized communities rather than undermining them.
Ideal candidate profile
- Demonstrates potential to influence public policy and pursue a career in government or public service
- Shares ISF’s mission and vision
- Shows strong communication skills and leadership ability
- Has a clear commitment to policy-making and public service
Minimum eligibility and qualification criteria
- Member of the Muslim community or an active participant in Muslim communal life
- U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident (green card holder), or DACA recipient
- Either graduated from an accredited U.S. university or will be enrolled full-time at an accredited U.S. university by August; applicants who are employed full-time in an ISF-supported field and enrolled part-time are also eligible
- Undergraduate (junior or senior) or graduate-level standing (master’s, PhD, or law student)
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- At least one year of professional experience in policy; three years preferred
- Demonstrable commitment to policy-making and public service

- Two letters of recommendation from a professor, mentor, religious leader, and/or employer
