Program Overview
This program promotes the benefits of a master’s degree within industry by providing practical summer engineering work experiences and a portable academic-year fellowship. Fellows receive employer-sponsored summer internships and an academic-year package that covers tuition, fees, and a stipend at participating GEM Member Universities. The financial package described applies to GEM Fellowships beginning in the Fall or later and is not retroactive. University and Associate Fellows are nominated by their universities rather than selected by the applicant.

Benefits
Employer Fellows receive a combined package of tuition support, a living stipend, and employer-sponsored summer internships. Employer Fellows must be available for selection by a GEM Employer and require university sponsorship to finalize the award. The GEM Member University issues a financial contract when the fellowship is confirmed, documenting the distribution of the employer contribution. Benefits are intended to support students across the academic year and during industry internships.
Award Value: Employer Fellows receive a minimum $16,000 total stipend over the entire master’s program, up to two paid summer internships with a GEM Employer Member, and full tuition and fees provided by a GEM Member University.

University Fellows
University Fellows receive academic-year support administered by a GEM Member University. These fellows are nominated by their university and the award covers the cost of enrollment at the sponsoring institution. The university provides the financial documentation and contract when the fellowship is confirmed. The program aims to reduce financial barriers to graduate study while maintaining strong institutional support.

Associate Fellows
Associate Fellows are supported through their GEM Member University and receive tuition coverage plus a university-funded stipend. These awards are university nominations and are intended to support both master’s and PhD students. Stipend levels differ by degree level and are paid by the GEM Member University. The Associate Fellowship provides ongoing academic-year support to complement any industry experience.
Award Value: Full tuition and fees provided by the GEM Member University; at least $8,000 stipend per year for master’s students; at least $16,000 stipend per year for PhD students.

Program Eligibility
Applicants must be a senior or a graduate of an accredited engineering or computer science program at the time of application. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale is required. Fellows must contractually agree to intern for two summers with their sponsoring GEM Employer, beginning the summer after sponsorship. These requirements ensure candidates have the necessary academic preparation and commitment to participate in the internship components of the program.
