Lovercheck (Margaret) Scholarship — For Graduating Seniors of Gering High School
Overview
One four-year scholarship is granted each year to a graduating senior from Gering High School who requires financial support to attend college. Eligible applicants must demonstrate a clear interest in pursuing further study in Art, Music, Theater, Literature, or Journalism and must have earned at least a “B” average during both their junior and senior years of high school. A primary recipient and an alternate will be chosen.
Award
- Amount: $1,000 per academic year, paid as $500 each semester.
- Renewal: Renewable for up to four years (provided renewal requirements are met).
Application deadline
- All applications and supporting materials must be submitted by April 1st.
Renewal and ongoing requirements
To remain in good standing with the Oregon Trail Community Foundation (OTCF) and to have the scholarship renewed each semester, the recipient must:
- Be enrolled as a full-time student.
- Successfully complete at least 15 credit hours each semester.
- Maintain a collegiate grade average of B (3.0) or higher.
- Provide the Foundation with semester grades no later than three weeks after grades are issued.
- Use scholarship funds only for tuition, books, and fees.
Payment and reporting
- Scholarship payments are made directly to the educational institution after the recipient meets renewal conditions.
- Recipients are responsible for forwarding their college transcript to the Oregon Trail Community Foundation within three (3) weeks after the end of each grading period. Failure to submit transcripts on time may jeopardize renewal.
Notification requirements
- If the scholarship recipient or the recipient’s parent(s) change address or phone number, they must notify the Oregon Trail Community Foundation with the new contact information.
- If the recipient transfers to a different college, the Foundation must be informed.
Forfeiture
- If the scholarship recipient does not enroll as a full-time student for the first semester for which the award is intended, the scholarship will be withdrawn and given to the alternate.
