Introduction
The attorneys and staff at The Underwood Law Office are strongly invested in their local community. As part of that commitment, the firm offers financial awards to college- and university-bound students who address topics the firm believes are important to creating stronger, healthier communities.
Purpose of the Award
The Underwood Law Office Community Leadership Scholarship was established to identify and support emerging leaders. The firm believes thriving communities depend on people who combine vision, service, intelligence, adaptability, humility, and dedication. This scholarship seeks students who demonstrate those qualities and who plan to continue serving and strengthening their communities.
Who Should Apply
We welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds. Whether you are newly admitted to a college or university or are already enrolled, if you are passionate about community engagement and can show that commitment through your actions—volunteer work, extracurriculars, internships, employment, or other pursuits—we encourage you to apply provided you meet the eligibility requirements below.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
To be considered for The Underwood Law Office Community Leadership Scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following:
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Include an unofficial transcript with your application.
- Submit an essay responding to the scholarship prompt (see application materials) along with your application.
- Agree to the scholarship’s Terms and Conditions.
- Complete and submit the application form on this page, including all required supporting documents, by the posted deadline.
- Financial need is not a requirement for consideration.
- Provide evidence of meaningful community service and demonstrate an ongoing commitment to civic engagement.
- Provide one or more letters of recommendation from people who can attest to your community involvement (recipients will be required to submit these).
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by your college or university.
- Include a current resume as part of the application package.
- Honors, awards, and extracurricular activities will be taken into account during the selection process.
