Introduction To date, the McDonald’s HACER National Scholarship program has granted more than $33 million to Hispanic and Latino students nationwide. The program awards scholarships to as many as 30 exceptional students each year, helping close educational gaps for college-bound Hispanic/Latino youth and reflecting McDonald’s long-standing commitment to supporting the diverse communities it serves. Award levels Scholarships are offered in three funding tiers to assist with college expenses: - Tier 1: awards up to $100,000 - Tier 2: awards of $20,000 or $10,000 - Tier 3: awards of $5,000 Recipients are chosen based on academic performance, community involvement, financial need, and the personal statement. Required materials Note: No separate essay is required. Applicants must submit the following items: - Official transcript - Personal statement - One letter of recommendation submitted online - A list of community service activities - FAFSA Student Aid Index (SAI) is not required for the initial application. However, if you advance to the semi-finalist stage, you will need to provide your FAFSA Submission Summary. Complete the FAFSA in advance to prepare for potential semi-finalist requirements. How recipients are selected Selection decisions are made using multiple factors, including: - Academic achievement - Demonstrated financial need - Community service and involvement - Personal statement - Personal qualities and strengths assessed during an interview (in-person or by phone) Eligibility To be considered for the McDonald’s® HACER® National Scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following: - Be a high school senior - Be a U.S. citizen, legal U.S. resident, or DREAMer/DACA recipient - Be under 21 years of age - Maintain at least a 2.8 GPA - Be eligible to enroll full-time at a two- or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school - Disclose other scholarship programs to which you have applied - Plan to enroll and attend an accredited institution in the academic year following selection (scholarship payments are sent directly to schools and proof of enrollment is required) - Have at least one parent of Hispanic/Latino heritage If you meet these requirements and want to apply, gather the documents listed above and complete the FAFSA so you’re ready if selected as a semi-finalist.
