New England Newspaper and Press Association Scholarship

Introduction
Each year the Journalism Education Foundation of New England (JEFNE) provides scholarships for high school seniors and college students pursuing careers in the newspaper industry. These awards — including the MacGregor Fiske Award — are presented through the New England Newspaper and Press Association. Up to 10 students may be chosen as recipients.
Who is eligible
- Must reside in one of the New England states: CT, MA, ME, NH, RI or VT.
- Must be a high school senior or an undergraduate college student planning to study journalism or a closely related field and intending to enroll in college in Fall 2025.
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
High school seniors and college students with an interest in journalism are encouraged to apply.
Required application materials
To show a clear commitment to a journalism career, applicants should submit the following:
- A cover letter explaining your interest and goals.
- An official or unofficial transcript.
- A resume or a brief biography.
- One letter of recommendation.
- A portfolio of published work (or work produced for a journalism class) consisting of at least three pieces. Acceptable outlets include a school news publication, a general-circulation newspaper, or a comparable publication.

After you apply, you will receive an email confirming receipt of your application. That message will include a link to a Dropbox folder where you should upload the required documents.
