Overview
The Louise Lightner Jamison Scholarship Fund was created to support Prince William County high school seniors who plan to pursue an undergraduate degree in education, with preference given to students who live in the Haymarket and Gainesville areas. The fund honors Louise Lightner Jamison — the sister of Helen Ray — who devoted 42 years to educating young children in the Haymarket community. Selections take into account academic performance as well as involvement in community service and extracurricular activities.
Eligibility
- Must be a graduating high school senior from Prince William County (preference for residents of Haymarket and Gainesville).
- Intends to pursue an undergraduate degree in education; applicants interested in early childhood education are especially encouraged to apply.
- High school transcript demonstrating a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- Demonstrated commitment or strong interest in a career in early childhood or elementary education.
Award Amount
- Up to two scholarships will be granted, each worth up to $2,000.

- January 6, 2025: Online application opens
- March 17, 2025: Online application deadline
- June 2025: Scholarship recipient(s) notified
- August 2025: Scholarship funds disbursed to recipients’ college/university
