L. Gerald Roach Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Virginia Association of Mutual Insurance Companies
In 1981, Jerry became the President of the Mutual Assurance Society. His leadership brought about significant transformations within the company. One of his major contributions was the transition from traditional 3 x 5 cards to a computerized system, which he played a crucial role in developing. This system, albeit with a few tweaks, is still operational today.
Under Jerry's stewardship, Mutual Assurance experienced substantial growth. The number of policies increased from approximately 5,000 to over 23,000. The annual premiums also saw a significant rise, from $800,000 to a staggering $38,000,000. When Jerry joined the company in 1981, it had a workforce of 6, including him. By the time of his passing, the company had expanded to 31 employees.
Jerry held prestigious positions in the insurance industry. He was a former president of the Virginia Association of Mutual Insurance Companies and a past chairman of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies. Throughout his illustrious career, he held various leadership roles in the industry. He also earned his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation, Fellow in the Life Management Institute designation, and Chartered Financial Examiner designation.
L. Gerald Roach was not only a remarkable individual and a loving father but also a towering figure in the mutual insurance industry.
