John C. Youngblood Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association
The Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (VIAAA) awards FOUR annual scholarships in the amount of $1500.00 each to FOUR deserving high school students who will be graduating from a Virginia High School League member school or Independent School. This scholarship is in honor of John C. Youngblood, the first VIAAA president. The athletic administrator of the member school must be a member of the Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association in order for the member school's student to qualify for the scholarship. Each school is limited to one nominee.
The scholarship will be awarded to a special and unique individual who:
A) Is definitely going to pursue higher education and has a need for financial aid
B) Has made a significant contribution to athletics
C) Will not receive any financial assistance in the form of an athletic scholarship
D) Has the respect of the coaches, peers, teachers, and community
The Selection Committee of the VIAAA will select FOUR individuals who best exemplify the description above. Attributes of athletic participation, leadership, service, and character will also be considered.
A) CHARACTER: Reflects the qualities of honesty, integrity, and courage.
B) LEADERSHIP: Possesses the capacity to lead and demonstrates the ability to provide direction that results in group achievement.
C) SCHOLARSHIP: Achieves above-average scholarship, evidenced provided by the nominating school that an institution of higher learning has accepted the student.
D) PARTICIPATION: Must have received at least one varsity monogram during their high school career and have participated in a varsity athletic program for a minimum of two years including his/her senior year
