Virginia Bankers Association Bank Day Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Virginia Bankers Association
Overview
In 1991 the Virginia General Assembly officially designated the third Tuesday in March as Bank Day in Virginia. On that day, high school seniors across the state are introduced to banking and financial services, learn about careers in the industry, and discover how banks contribute to their communities.
2023 Program Format
The 2023 Bank Day Scholarship Program will be conducted in a hybrid model. The Virginia Bankers Association (VBA) will provide centralized content, while participating banks will offer either in-person or virtual Bank Day experiences. A VBA-created resource page will be available to students during a three-week period, March 13–31, 2023. That page will contain all the materials and information students need to research topics and prepare the required essay. The VBA will also supply guidance and suggestions to help banks host students effectively in any format.
Essay and Scholarships
Following their Bank Day experience, students must submit an essay. Thirteen scholarships will be awarded based on those essays: six honorable mention awards, six regional scholarships, and one statewide scholarship.
Eligibility
To participate, students must meet all of the following:
- Be currently enrolled as a high school senior at a Virginia high school
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Be a Virginia resident
- Provide contact information for a teacher or guidance counselor
If you need additional details about hosting students or accessing the VBA resource page, contact the VBA or your local participating bank.
