Districts Make The Difference Video Scholarships

Overview
What began as a California student video contest is now open to high schoolers across the United States. Students in grades 9–12 are invited to produce a short, entertaining, and informative video (up to 60 seconds) that showcases how special districts “Make the Difference” in communities nationwide. Winning students earn scholarship money, and the teachers of winning entrants receive additional funds to help support technology and distance learning.
Who can enter
U.S. high school students in grades 9 through 12 are eligible and encouraged to participate.
Submission requirements and process
- Video length: maximum 60 seconds.
- Theme: demonstrate ways special districts positively impact local communities.
- The submission period runs from January 1, 2025, through March 31, 2025.
- Districts Make the Difference will select the top ten finalists from all entries.
- Final winners will be determined through public voting held May 1–15, 2025.
Judging criteria
Entries will be evaluated on four key factors:
1. Accuracy and effectiveness – how well the video communicates factual information and the intended message.
2. Creativity and originality – uniqueness of concept and approach.
3. Production quality – technical execution, including visuals and audio.
4. Entertainment value – how engaging and appealing the piece is to viewers.
Prizes
Districts Make the Difference will award prizes at the end of May:
- First place: $2,000
- Second place: $1,000
- Third place: $500
Plus: for each winning video, the student’s selected teacher will receive an additional $500 to support classroom technology and distance learning initiatives.
