Description: Each spring, the George and Mary Josephine Hamman Foundation awards seventy scholarships to Houston-area high school seniors for undergraduate study. Awards support students enrolled at accredited four-year colleges or universities in the United States. Recipients must meet the Foundation's requirements for continued eligibility and renewal of funding.

Eligibility

Eligibility: Applicants must be high school seniors who have begun their senior year and attend schools or are homeschooled in one of eight Houston-area counties: Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, or Waller. Applicants must be citizens of the United States; applicants with Permanent Resident status are not eligible. Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance and demonstrated financial need.

• Must be a high school senior after the start of the senior year.
• Residency/attendance required in one of eight specified counties.
• U.S. citizenship required; Permanent Residents are ineligible.
• Awards consider both academics and demonstrated financial need.

Award Value

Award Value: The scholarship award is $25,000 per recipient, disbursed over a maximum of four years or until the student graduates, whichever occurs first. Funds are provided to support undergraduate study and are subject to continued compliance with the Foundation's renewal requirements. The award amount is fixed per recipient and is intended to reduce the student’s cost of attendance over the undergraduate period.

Application Timeline

Application Timeline: Scholarship applications may be submitted during the student’s senior year and must be started after September 15 of that year. Do not submit an application before taking the SAT or ACT; applicants must meet a minimum SAT composite score of 1000 (Math and Reading/Writing combined) and/or an ACT composite score of 21, and all scores must come from the same test date. The final submission/receipt deadline is the end of day on the final day of February of the senior year (if that date falls on a weekend, the application must be received by the following Monday). Finalists are selected from the applicant pool and will be notified by email, followed by written confirmation; if you have not been contacted by the first week of April, assume you are not a finalist.

• Applications accepted after September 15 of the senior year.
• SAT minimum: 1000 composite; ACT minimum: 21 composite; scores must be from one test date.
• Submission deadline: end of day final February day (Monday if deadline falls on a weekend).
• Finalists notified by email; no notification by early April indicates non-selection.
