Overview
The George and Mary Josephine Hamman Foundation awards seventy scholarships each spring to Houston-area high school seniors for undergraduate study. Recipients may choose any major at any accredited four-year college or university in the United States. Awards are disbursed over up to four years, subject to the Foundation's requirements and the student's continued enrollment.
Description: Seventy scholarships are awarded annually to qualified Houston-area seniors for undergraduate study in the United States.
Award Value: Each award totals $25,000, disbursed over four years or until the student graduates, whichever occurs first.

Eligibility
The scholarship targets Houston-area high school seniors who meet academic and residency requirements. Applicants must be U.S. citizens; permanent residents are not eligible. Selection considers both academic achievement and financial need.
Eligibility: Applicants must be high school seniors, residents of specified Houston-area counties, and U.S. citizens.
- High school seniors after the start of their senior year.
- Residents or homeschoolers in Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, or Waller counties.
- U.S. citizens only; permanent residents are not eligible.
- Selection based on academics and demonstrated financial need.
- Citizenship is required (no permanent residents)
- County residency within the eight specified counties is required
- Both merit and financial need are evaluated
Application Process
Applications are submitted online during the student's senior year and must be initiated after September 15 of the senior year. Do not submit the application before you have taken the SAT or ACT. Follow the Foundation's instructions precisely; contact the Foundation at 713-521-4601 if you need clarification.

Required Documents and Forms
The online application accepts all required attachments during the submission process. A Financial Qualification Statement is a mandatory form and must be completed in full; it is not a substitute for a FAFSA report. Failure to include required or complete forms may result in an application not being considered.

Notification and Deadline
The submission deadline is the end of day on the final day of February of the student's senior year; if that date falls on a weekend, the deadline is the following Monday. Finalists are selected from the pool of applicants and will be notified by email. Finalists will later receive written or email notification indicating whether they will receive a scholarship; if you have not been notified by the first week in April, assume you are not a finalist.
