W. Price Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Overview
Each year the Texas Restaurant Foundation presents the W. Price Jr. Memorial Scholarship to students demonstrating a growing commitment to careers in foodservice and hospitality. The award honors W. Price Jr., the Texas Restaurant Association’s first executive director, who served from 1953–1974. Seven $1,000 scholarships will be granted to students graduating from high school hospitality programs.
Who is eligible
- Must be a legal resident of Texas (attendance at an out‑of‑state school is permitted).
- Must be enrolled in a degree program related to foodservice or hospitality.
- Must be a full‑time student (12 credit hours or more) and take at least 3 credit hours per semester in foodservice or hospitality management.
- Must meet academic minimums: overall GPA of at least 2.75, and a major GPA of 3.5 (for high school seniors the major GPA requirement is 2.75).
- Must demonstrate potential to be an asset to the foodservice industry; stated goals and objectives should reflect this.
- Must provide verification of enrolled hours after the last drop/add date each semester; enrollment proof is required before scholarship funds are released.
Restrictions
- Previous recipients are ineligible to receive the award again.
- College seniors in their final semester are not eligible.
- Scholarships are not payable for summer terms.
Required application materials
All of the following must be uploaded by the deadline:
- Official transcript from your current high school or college/university.
- College applicants must submit transcripts covering at least the previous two academic years. Freshmen must include their high school transcript.
- Two signed letters of recommendation:
1. From a current or former employer — on company letterhead and signed with the signature placed over the envelope seal.
2. From a school official at your current high school, culinary academy, or university — on school letterhead and signed with the signature placed over the envelope seal.
How applications are judged
The scholarship committee will evaluate submissions using these factors:
- Spelling, punctuation and legibility of the application
- Grade point average and ACT/SAT test scores
- Class ranking (for high school seniors)
- Honors and community involvement
- Essay responses
- Strength of references
- Industry‑related work experience (including 1–5 years working in foodservice)
Deadline and disqualification
All application materials — application form, letters of reference and transcripts — must be uploaded by March 31, 2025. Applications submitted after this date, incomplete files, or materials that do not follow the stated instructions will be disqualified.
