Overview
The Lift Up Our Voices Founders Scholarship ($3,500) supports increasing representation of women-identifying students and students of color in music composition. It is intended for students beginning college who plan to study music at the undergraduate level.
Who is eligible
- Applicants must identify as a woman or as a student of color.
- Intend to pursue an undergraduate degree in music.
- Be an entering college freshman planning to enroll full time at a U.S. accredited institution of higher education in the upcoming fall term.
- Have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Required application materials
- Up to two representative musical compositions (maximum of 2 works).
- A brief biography.
- A concise personal statement outlining your goals in music composition and explaining how this scholarship would support those goals.
- Two letters of recommendation, with at least one written by a music teacher, that speak to your accomplishments in music and composition and your potential for continued growth.
- A resume in PDF format detailing relevant musical experience; indicate if any of your works have been performed (performance history is optional).
Selection process
A diverse panel of music and composition professionals will evaluate applications and choose the scholarship recipient. For further details about the review committee, click here.
If awarded
Recipients must agree to allow Lift Up Our Voices, Inc. to use their name, likeness, image, and a short biography on the organization’s website and in promotional materials used for future scholarship fundraising.
