Michael J. Miller Scholarship Program
Scholarship Sponsored by Association Advancement Medical Instrumentation Foundation
Overview
The AAMI Foundation, through its Awards Committee, grants annual scholarships to students preparing for careers as biomedical equipment technicians or in health-technology-focused engineering fields, including clinical and health systems engineering. Each scholarship is a one-time award of $3,000, issued as a single check presented to recipients at the AAMI Exchange.
Eligibility
- Must be an entering or continuing full-time college student pursuing a career in the healthcare technology field at an institution accredited by one of the six regional accrediting agencies (or an equivalent accrediting body).
- Common qualifying majors include biomedical equipment technology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, clinical engineering, physics, and other health sciences.
- Applicants must still be enrolled as students in June 2025 to remain eligible for AAMI Foundation scholarships.
Application materials (required)
To be considered, applicants must submit all of the following:
- A short essay (500–700 words)
- The most recent academic transcript
- Two letters of recommendation from professional contacts
Note: Applicants may apply even if admission to their educational program is pending at the time of application, but all materials listed above must be submitted.
Selection, notification, and award conditions
- Recipients are chosen by the AAMI Awards Committee; its decisions are final and committee deliberations are confidential.
- Scholarship winners will be notified in writing by June 1 (or earlier).
- Scholarship awards are announced in AAMI publications and on the AAMI website; recipients are invited to attend the AAMI Exchange where the award check is presented.
- Before the check is released, recipients will be required to provide proof of course registration or enrollment.
- If a recipient withdraws from or is dismissed from their program, they must return the scholarship funds to the AAMI Foundation.
Additional rules
- Applicants may reapply and receive awards in successive years.
- Candidates may apply for both AAMI Foundation and HSEA scholarships, but may only accept one scholarship in any single calendar year.
- Awards are granted without regard to race, color, ancestry, sex, religion, age, disability, or veteran status.
